Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for what you have and of course, eat delicious food–but who says you have to stay home to do this? New traditions are great to start! Why not start an annual tradition by coming to the North Georgia Mountains for Thanksgiving?

The North Georgia Mountains are a beautiful place to be in the fall. Unbelievable colors, crisp air, and  blue skies are just a few things that will greet you in the mountains of North Georgia.

If your family or group is the outdoorsy type then spend a day becoming one with nature. Taking walks or hikes, fishing and even driving through the mountains will make you relax and get ready for a great Thanksgiving holidays.

If your family always cooks, then make sure you reserve a North Georgia cabin that has a fully equipped kitchen. If your family is looking for a new tradition, consider going out to eat. Some restaurants might be serving Thanksgiving dinner the day of or the day before Thanksgiving. It might be nice to have someone clean up after you and your family.

The best part of vacationing in a cabin might be enjoying the big screen TV or some other cabin amenity. Sitting back and watching football after Thanksgiving dinner is so much fun. Imagine some family competition on a pool table, air hockey table or maybe a foosball table.

Thanksgiving in the North Georgia Mountains is all about relaxation and enjoying time with your family and loved ones. There is just something about fall in the mountains that help everyone feel a little calmer. It is said that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. If this is the case, why not make a visit to Ellijay GA?  Being coined the apple capital of the South, Ellijay will make it easier to get your hands on some tasty apples by hosting a festival in October.

The Ellijay Lions Club, Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce, City of Ellijay and Gilmer County are planning for their 2009 Georgia Apple Festival. The 38th annual Georgia Apple Festival will be held on the October 9, 10 and 11 and on October 16, 17, and 18. This delicious festival always takes place at the Ellijay Lions Club Fair Grounds off of Hwy. 5.

As soon as you pay the $5.00 adult admission and step inside the gate you are overwhelmed with over 300 vendors that are selling their handmade craft items. Amongst the crafts area you will see apple fritters, fried apple pies, carmel apples, apple cider, apple dumplings and anything else apple you can think of. If you think there is nothing to eat but apples then you are wrong because the Georgia Apple Festival is not just about good entertainment, apples and crafts. Other foods are offered as well.

Walking through the crafts area and browsing the declicious apples is not the only thing you can enjoy. Each year there is a parade and an antique car show. The first weekend of the festival opens with the antique car show at the Civic Center and the second weekend goes out with a bang as you and your family enjoy the parade. Near the front of the fairgrounds there is a pavillion and stage set up for you to take a break and sit down to enjoy some of the fantastic entertainment that is lined up! With a large amount of vendors for the 2009 Georgia Apple Festival and too many apples to count this festival is perfect for the family and children of all ages.

Ellijay GA is a beautiful city located in the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge mountains of Northern Georgia. Besides the scenic beauty, fine dining and gorgeous North GA cabins, Ellijay offers many annual events for its passionate travelers.

One unique event held in Ellijay GA is the Spring Arts Fair. This event will be held on April 18, 2009. The location of this event is in the historic downtown of Ellijay GA. This event will be for artisans who would like to display their work. Artisans of all types are welcome at this event in Ellijay GA including painters, sculptures, potters, and jewelers. Vendors and artits applications are due by March 31, 2009.

Exciting entertainment will be there to help pass the time as visitors peruse the booths. There will be a DJ, some drama, dancing and some comedians.

This event is sponsored by DEMA, DFACS, GAHA and GAP and all proceeds go to help foster children.
